L’histoire de la marque

C’est à partir de 1789 que la réputation d’Evian voit le jour. En effet, le marquis de Lessert se serait régulièrement désaltéré à l’eau de la fontaine Sainte Catherine sur la propriété de Monsieur Cachat. Souffrant de maux de reins et du foie, le marquis aurait constaté une nette amélioration. La notoriété des biens faits de l’eau se répandit rapidement et l’eau fut préscrite par des médecins des alentours. C’est ainsi que Monsieur Cachat décida de clore la source et de vendre l’eau. La source devint alors la source Cachat.

Dés 1826, l’eau de source est mise en bouteille dans des cruches de terre. Rapidement, la ville d’Evian devient un lieu de thermalisme.

Tandis que la ville est nommée Evian-Les-Bains, la société propriétaire de la sources devient la société anonyme des eaux minérales d’Evian-les-bains en 1869.

A partir de 1892, la source passe sous le controle de la municipalité qui autorise son exploitation moyennant une redevance.

Dés 1908, l’eau est commercialisée en bouteille de verre fabriquées par les verreries Souchon-Neuvesel ( futur BSN, futur Danone). C’est le démarrage du marché de l’eau en France.

L’eau est vendue exclusivement en pharmacie mais en 1964, le groupe BSN qui détient désormais 25% du capital de la société déploie la marque Evian en grande surface.

C’est à partir de 1969 que l’eau est commercialisée sous bouteille en plastique. Danone contrôle désormais la totalité de la société Evian.

EVIAN aujourd’hui :

1,5 milliards de litres d’Evian sont vendues par an.
6 millions de bouteilles sont produites chaque jour
150 wagons quittent le site d’embouteillage chaque jour
La marque est présente dans 130 pays à travers le monde.
